Jaguar and Land Rover cars call for a solid knowledge of how they are built — especially when it comes to the Ingenium diesel engine family. Jaguar F-Pace: rebuilding the timing drive
One of those cases was a 2017 Jaguar F-Pace with a 2.0 Ingenium diesel engine and a serious timing drive problem.
The repair meant removing the powertrain together with the subframe, separating the gearbox and stripping the engine down.
We then repaired the damaged timing drive, fitted a new timing kit correctly and put the car back together.
The car was brought back to life and returned to daily use.
Land Rover Discovery Sport: a chain replaced in time
The second example is a Land Rover Discovery Sport with the same 2.0 Ingenium diesel. Here the problem was caught earlier: the timing chain had stretched, but the engine had not yet suffered serious damage. We carried out a routine timing kit replacement.
These two cars show exactly what separates a timely repair from a problem that has been left to develop.

Don't put off a timing drive check
We especially recommend not delaying diagnostics if your Ingenium diesel starts making an unusual noise from the timing drive area. The difference between replacing the chain in time and repairing the engine after it fails can be very substantial.
